Composition in Photography

Basics of photography (Part - 2)...

"We are all living in the 21st century, where many of us have high-tech smartphones with great cameras and many of them have high-tech cameras like SLRs, DSLRs, etc. too. It means many of us love photography. Will be doing. But have you ever considered improving your photography and making it more creative, attractive and commercializing your photographs... so we've come up with some of the basics of photography that will help you click photos in a creative and engaging way. "

Now, composition is how the elements in a photo are arranged. A design I can make from many different elements by applying different rules. In this way the artist puts the things in a frame which helps the photograph to become more interesting for his viewers.

(Note: In this Atricle, we will only discuss the basics that are based on 'grid', i.e. 'design'.)

In the previous articles of this series, we have already discussed the following things, do check them out:

First of all, what is meant by 'Grid'?

Grids are lines used as reference lines, which actually help to get perfectly formed pictures, which is a real challenge for a particular photographer.

🔷 Types of grid in photography :

  • Rule of thirds
  • One quarter
  • Crosshair
  • Triangles (top left-bottom right & bottom left-to-right).
  • Golden spiral (top-right, top-left, bottom-right  & bottom-left).

Now, what does this 'Composition' mean?

Composition, is the most important thing that tells the story of the image to your viewers. As a photographer one has to work hard to create a photograph so that his scenes do not have difficulty in seeing the beautiful photograph, he must understand what the subject is and what the photograph tells the story.

Now, to get a perfectly composed Photograph you must know the following basic things that are required for composing a photograph.

1) The Rule of Thirds :

The rule of thirds suggests that you divide the frame into three equal parts, horizontal and vertical, and then place your subject at any of the four intersections. You can also look at the grid lines to do this. The advantage of doing this now is that when you place your subject at any one of the four intersections, the human brain pays direct attention to the subject and easily understands what is being said by the image.

    2) The centered composition (Symmetry) :

The centralized structure is one of the most dynamic structures. One thing to keep in mind when shooting this type of design is that the subject should be placed in the center of the frame, it can be vertical, it can be horizontal or both. You can also look at the grid lines to do this. This type of design looks great when you want to show some kind of symmetry or reflection in your images.

    3) The Leading Lines :

Leading lines mean that there are lines that lead to or convert to a point that can be a subject. This is a strong design technique that makes your images spicy and makes them more dynamic. Now how to identify these leading lines, it is very simple that they can be straight or curved, they can also be parallel or intersecting only depends on your imagination. To do this you can also look at the grid lines which will help you to frame your subject.

    4) Adding a Foreground Interest :

We know that the frame is divided into three parts, the upper part is called the background, the middle part is called the middle part and the lower part is called the front part. We usually overlook the front elements and in some cases this can be a big mistake. Adding elements that complement the scene in the foreground will make your images look really dynamic, because you are adding interest in everything from the foreground to the midground to the background. You can also view grid lines to place elements in the foreground.
